Island Pond grew up around a railroad junction, and Brighton still has the feel of a place built to keep moving no matter what the sky delivers. Winter arrives early this far north in the Kingdom, and snow piles deep along the shore of the pond and the roads that run out into the woods. JBL Hauling & Excavating meets it with snow removal across Brighton, plowing driveways open and clearing room so trucks, snowmobiles and neighbors can come and go. It's heavy-equipment work at heart — the same muscle that moves earth and hauls loads, turned toward keeping a town unstuck. On a hard blue morning after a storm, when the cold makes the snow squeak underfoot, a wide-open drive feels like a gift.
