The Neshobe River comes down out of Brandon Gap and runs straight through the middle of town, and by October the water is loud with leaves. Black Bear Tree Service spends that stretch of the year moving them — fall cleanups on village lots and out along the roads toward Forestdale, hauling off whatever the maples release. The rest of the season it is mowing and trimming, week by week through the green months, close along walls and walkways. Brandon lawns sit in the shadow of the Green Mountains, so growth comes fast in June and stops hard in autumn. Both ends get handled the same way: cut it right, then clean up after.
