You can see the Battle Monument from most of Bennington, and in a snowstorm it goes soft and gray until it's barely more than a suggestion above the rooftops. Brandon Spiller's Services works under it either way — plowing drives and lots, shoveling walks and salting steps when the town is white, then mowing, trimming and cleaning up yards once the hills green over again. Winter storms slide in from the west over the New York line and drop their load right here at the foot of the Green Mountains, which makes for long nights and early mornings. Summer asks something gentler but no less exact. Both seasons end the same way: standing back at a property that's been put in order, and moving on to the next one.
