Barnard is a handful of dirt roads that all seem to end up at Silver Lake, where the store porch fills on a summer afternoon and nobody hurries. Crossroads Landscape looks after the lawns along those roads — mowing and trimming, edging, mulch beds, shrub and hedge trimming, and the spring and fall cleanups the hardwoods make necessary. Hill-country properties run uphill, downhill and around ledge, so the work is half mowing and half knowing where a mower will and will not go. When the maples turn and the leaves come off in a single week, the cleanup becomes the whole job and it is worth doing all the way. A cut lawn set into Barnard's woods and stone walls is a good-looking thing.
