About Custom Gardens LLC

Winter along Wormley Creek is a pale, patient color — bleached spartina, pewter water, the marsh holding still until the tide turns. Custom Gardens LLC watches the forecast through that quiet and moves when it breaks, clearing Yorktown drives and walks after the ice that rides in off the Chesapeake. Accumulation rarely lasts long here, but a half inch on a shaded slope can hold for three days, so the work is plowing, hand shoveling around plantings and steps, and de-icing where the sun never reaches. Beds and borders get treated gently, and nothing is piled where it would drown a shrub come March. A cleared path curving out to the road, edges honest and square, is a fine thing to leave behind on a gray afternoon.
