About Scotts Co

Waverly grew up along the rail line, and freight still comes through town, marking the hours the way it always has. Scotts Co keeps the ground on either side of those tracks in order — mowing and trimming through a long Southside summer, then plowing and shoveling when a winter system comes up out of the southwest and glazes Sussex County overnight. Ice is the real event in this part of Virginia more often than deep snow, and a cleared driveway at six in the morning is worth a great deal to somebody who has to leave at seven. The work is unglamorous and completely necessary. That suits the town it belongs to.
