About Stone Lawn Works

Out at the Chuckatuck crossroads the evening arrives slowly, heat lifting off the fields while the creek runs down toward the James. Stone Lawn Works cuts in that back half of a July day, when the grass has stopped fighting the sun and a mower can lay down a line that holds. Mowing, edging, string trimming along fences and mailbox posts, the drive blown down afterward — plain work, taken all the way into the corners where it is easiest to quit early. The reward is the walk back to the truck, when the yard finally reads as one clean shape and the porch lights start coming on down the lane. Chuckatuck, Driver, Crittenden and Eclipse are all a short run apart, which suits a crew that would rather finish a place properly than hurry to the next one.
