Hawksbill stands over Stanley with its head in the clouds most winter mornings, and when a squall slips down off the Blue Ridge the town knows about it inside the hour. Stanley Excavating meets that with plow trucks: driveways and lots pushed open, walkways and entries cleared, ice treated where the sun never quite reaches. There is a particular pleasure in the finished pass — snow banked neatly at the margins, asphalt showing dark and wet from gate to garage. Storms up against this ridge do not always follow the valley forecast, so routes get run on what the sky actually did. Stanley, Alma, Shenandoah and the roads toward Elkton are all covered.
