About KINGS HAULING AND EXCAVATING INC.

At three in the morning the exits off I-81 through Salem run nearly empty, which is precisely when a parking lot is easiest to clear. KINGS HAULING AND EXCAVATING INC. works those hours all winter — plowing commercial lots, pushing snow to the corners where it will not eat half the spaces, scraping the drive aisles down to asphalt. Entryways and sidewalks get shoveled and treated, because the last twenty feet is where people actually fall. Then the sky lightens over the Blue Ridge and the first cars roll in as though nothing had happened. It is a trade that leaves no evidence behind, which is the point of it.
