Lake Land ' Or

About Lake Land ' Or

Water keeps its own calendar, and around the lake the cold arrives with a little more conviction than it does out along the highway. When a winter storm crosses Caroline County, Lake Land ' Or is out on the cul-de-sacs and lakeside lanes with the plow, opening driveways and clearing walks so the morning can happen on schedule. There is a particular satisfaction in a drive scraped down to dark pavement while the yards on either side are still perfectly white. Ice gets treated where it likes to form — the shaded curve, the dip that never sees sun, the apron at the bottom of a sloped drive. By the time light reaches the treeline the neighborhood is moving again, unhurried, as though nothing had fallen at all.
