About Hodges lawnscapes

There is a smell to a May afternoon around Ferrum and Rocky Mount — cut grass, warm clay, rain somewhere back over the ridge. Hodges lawnscapes spends its spring inside that smell, mowing yards and open lots, running the trimmer along fence rows, tightening up the edges the winter blurred. Franklin County ground rolls, so half the skill is reading a slope and cutting it so the stripes lie true instead of wandering. When the mower shuts off and the yard sits there level and green to the last corner, the day has done what it was supposed to do.
