About Shupp's Stump Grinding, LLC

From Church Hill in February you can hear the fall line working — the James breaking white over the rocks, the whole bare-branched city laid out downhill. Shupp's Stump Grinding, LLC leans into that winter calendar, when frozen ground takes a machine well and there is nothing green to protect: stumps ground out beneath the surface, spoil cleared, a level patch handed back. Removals and trimming come with the territory, whether it is a hackberry crowding a cobblestone alley or limbs pressing a slate roof on a narrow lot. Old neighborhoods make a puzzle of it — gates, garden walls, buried lines, and eight feet of clearance if you are lucky. Getting it done without touching anything else is the part worth taking pride in.
