About J.C. Martin, Inc.

Winter in Pound tends to come over from the Kentucky side, crossing the state line and filling the coves and side valleys before most of town is awake. J.C. Martin, Inc. handles snow removal here, where driveways pitch steeply off the county roads and one slick grade can keep a household home for the day. The aim is simple and deeply satisfying: a drive scraped down to pavement, a path opened to the door, a way out before the school buses start their rounds. In a town folded this tightly between mountains, a cleared lane is a small freedom. At first light the snow still clings to the ridgelines, but the road down the hill is open.
