About James River Grounds Management

Three in the morning on Victory Boulevard, the lots sit empty and the sky is doing the thing it only does ahead of frozen weather. James River Grounds Management runs snow and ice work in Portsmouth — plowing lots, clearing walks, laying salt at the entrances while the city is still asleep. It is a handful of nights a winter around here, and every one of them counts double. By the time the first cars turn in, the lanes are open, the curbs are visible, and nobody has to give it a thought. That is the whole measure of the job: a morning where nothing goes wrong.
