Deep winter turns the Cuyahoga Valley hushed and monochrome: black trunks, a white floor, deer tracks stitched across the towpath where nobody has walked since the snow started. Will's Wildlife Control moves through that stillness with a plow, opening driveways and lots around Hale, breaking the berm the county truck leaves at the end of every drive, and hand-shoveling the walks and steps a blade can never reach. Salt goes down where the grade turns and where a doorway collects ice, which in this landscape is nearly everywhere. Storms roll off the lake in bands, so a route that was clean at midnight often wants running again at five, and it gets run. Hale, Peninsula, Richfield, Bath and Boston Heights make up the winter map.
