Markins Clearing & Grading

About Markins Clearing & Grading

Gravel drives need a lighter touch than blacktop, and out on the county lanes around Petersburg most of them are gravel. Markins Clearing & Grading plows snow and ice off drives, lanes and lots, clearing walks and treating the slick spots the sun never reaches. A blade set right lifts the snow and leaves the stone; set wrong, it spreads a winter's worth of gravel into the grass, and come April everybody knows. Ice storms are the real event in this part of Virginia — that hard silver morning when the pines bow down and nothing moves — and an opened lane is the difference between waiting it out and getting on with the day. The work ends when the pavement is clear to its edges.
