Frost Fighters

About Frost Fighters

At three in the morning the Valley Pike runs black under falling white, and Middletown is asleep except for the plow lights. Frost Fighters keeps that hour — opening driveways and lots, cutting sidewalks down to bare pavement, spreading salt where the wind off I-81 has packed the drifts hard. Storms in the northern Shenandoah rarely announce themselves politely; they come in sideways and then settle in for the night. The reward is small and specific: a driveway already open when the porch light comes on, and nobody who has to think about it. By breakfast the trucks are back out for the second pass.
