Kirby's Lawn & Landscaping

About Kirby's Lawn & Landscaping

The first cut of the year in Mechanicsville usually lands in March, when the crocus are up and the grass has gone from gray to a thin, hopeful green. Kirby's Lawn & Landscaping opens there — mowing low and clean, recutting the edges that softened over the cold months, trimming back to the fence lines. From then until November it is a weekly circuit through the neighborhoods off Courthouse Road and Stonewall Parkway, cutting, edging, clearing the clippings and moving on. The last stretch of the year belongs to leaves, hauled off the turf so spring gets a fair start. A lawn kept on schedule looks effortless, which is exactly the trick of it.
