Brown's Lawn In Order

About Brown's Lawn In Order

Out toward Cold Harbor the fields keep an old kind of quiet, and in late August the heat sits on them until almost dark. Brown's Lawn In Order mows into that evening cool — long passes, alternating stripes, the trimmer cleaning up everything the deck cannot reach. There is order in it, which is the name and also the idea: a lawn that reads as tended from the road. When a Hanover County winter turns serious, the crew swaps over to plowing, clearing walkways and salting the ice that forms where the sun never lands. Mechanicsville gets a straight edge in July and an open driveway in January, from the same hands.
