Out at Lake Jackson the water sits flat and dark under the trees, and it tells you the season plainly: green light on it in July, a skin of ice at the edges in January. Marigold's Landscaping works to that same calendar, mowing and edging the lawns of Manassas through the long warm months and turning to plow and shovel once the mercury drops. Snow here can come as a wet, ten-inch shoulder-load or as an inch of stubborn ice, and either way somebody has to open the drive before the day can start. Then spring returns, the mowers come out of the shed, and the whole town needs cutting at once. It is a full circuit of the year, run across Manassas and the towns beside it.
