Out past the runway lights at Manassas Regional, the land lies flat enough that a January wind arrives with nothing to slow it down. A&Gconstruction works those first dark hours, when a plow blade is the only sound on a lot and the snow is still loose enough to move clean. Driveways, walks and entrances come up bare to the pavement, edges squared, salt laid where the midday melt will refreeze by evening. There is real satisfaction in how a parking lot looks at six in the morning — dark, dry, the piles stacked well out of the sightlines. By the time Manassas is awake and pouring coffee, the hard part of the day has already been taken care of.
