Tony's Ground Control

About Tony's Ground Control

Snow does not visit central Virginia often, and when it does the whole county lands somewhere between powder and a sheet of glaze. Tony's Ground Control works those nights — plowing driveways and lots across Madison Heights, opening walks and steps by hand, spreading salt and sand where shade holds ice long after the sun is up. The hills here are the problem and the point: a drive that tips down toward the road has to be cleared properly or it isn't cleared at all. The shift starts hours before the first headlights come over the rise. By the time Amherst County wakes, the pavement is dark and the day can go ahead as planned.
