Johnson's Mowing

About Johnson's Mowing

West of Lexington the road runs out through hayfields toward Brownsburg, past barns and black cattle and fence lines that have not shifted in a long while. Johnson's Mowing works this side of Rockbridge County — mowing, trimming, edging, keeping yards in trim from the first flush of April growth to the final cut of the fall. On a June evening the mower runs, the cut grass rises, and the whole field smells like the middle of summer. A finished lawn under that light, striped and squared off at the drive, looks like the valley itself in miniature. Small work, kept up with, is what adds up to a place.
