Bedtime Gardens

About Bedtime Gardens

There is an hour in June around Lake Barcroft when the light goes gold sideways through the trees, fireflies come up out of the grass, and a garden looks like the finest thing anyone ever built. Bedtime Gardens is named for that end-of-day feeling: beds weeded, edges redrawn, mulch laid down, everything tucked in. The work stays close to the ground — pulling what doesn't belong, cutting back what's finished, keeping hostas and hydrangeas out of each other's way in the deep shade these lots are full of. Lawn care rounds it out, mowing and trimming so the turf frames the planting instead of crowding it. The wooded lots near the water and the open ones toward Falls Church all get the same slow attention.
