Late August on Carter's Creek is all heavy air and slow water, the kind of afternoon when a mown lawn is the one crisp thing in sight. Greenline Landscapes works the yards between Kilmarnock and the creek mouths — mowing on a weekly turn, trimming around fence posts and flower beds, edging drives, clearing debris after the summer's storms. Tidewater grass grows fast and lies flat in humidity, so the cut has to be timed and the lines have to be honest. When it comes out right, a yard looks wide open and the house behind it sits better on its ground. That is the aim from the first spring flush to the last load of leaves.
