Shaffer's lawn care

About Shaffer's lawn care

October in Independence is loud color and a still town: the maples go over all at once, the wind comes down off the ridges, and the New River runs cold and clear a few miles out. Shaffer's lawn care follows the season down — the last cuts of the year, leaves gathered off the yards before they mat and smother what is underneath, edges kept sharp while the light lasts. There is an art to a final mow, low and even, so a lawn goes into the cold looking like it was left that way on purpose. Grayson County yards are rarely simple, all bank and bend and stone, and that is half the pleasure of them. Come the thaw, the grass comes back green and even.
