About Sherlin Lawncare

The Staunton River makes a slow turn at Hurt, and the bottomland holds its fog long after the ridgetops have gone silver. Sherlin Lawncare takes up the winter half of that country — snow cleared from the driveways along the river road, the short steep pulls where a car will spin if the pavement isn't bare, the walks salted right out to their edges. There is a particular satisfaction in finishing a lane while the field beyond it is still untouched white, one dark line drawn straight through the morning. Snow doesn't visit this corner of Pittsylvania County often, but when it does the whole county waits on it, and this is work done for the people who cannot wait. By the time the light comes up over the water, the way out is open.
