Early on a Grottoes morning the fog sits low on the South River and burns off in pieces, so the town appears a street at a time. JC Landscaping and more is out in it with the gate down, working lawns from the river bottoms up toward Route 256 and Weyers Cave. Mowing, string trimming, crisp edges along walks and drives, cleanups when spring opens the year and again when fall closes it — the ordinary rhythm that keeps a property looking after itself.
