About M. L. Blake Earthworks

Down toward Bena and the Severn the lanes are packed shell and sand, and they take a freeze in their own particular way: bright, hard and slick under a thin skin of snow. M. L. Blake Earthworks clears those mornings, plowing drives, opening the approaches and treating the ice that hangs on in the shade past noon. Storms coming off the water here bring more weight than depth, wet stuff that settles fast. Blade set right, the edges walked with a shovel, salt only where it earns its keep. Then the drive is dark again and the boat trailer can move.
