About Blade Runners Inc.

The sound comes first — steel finding pavement somewhere out past Kamp Washington while the rest of the block is still asleep. Fairfax gets a particular kind of winter: cold air pooling east of the Blue Ridge, rain falling down into it, and a glaze setting on every driveway apron by midnight. Blade Runners Inc. pushes the accumulation off, clears steps and walkways by hand, and lays de-icer where that glaze wants to hold. The good part is the after — a driveway cut square to its edges, black and drying, with the storm still hanging in the trees. Fairfax gets on with its morning and hardly notices why it can.
