Emory sits in a fold of Washington County where the Middle Fork of the Holston winds through pasture and Clinch Mountain closes off the north. Stripes & Stones LLC earns the first half of its name every week: mowing that lays a clean alternating pattern across a yard, plus the trimming, edging and cleanup that make the pattern hold. Southwest Virginia grass grows cool and slow and takes stripes beautifully, especially on a morning still damp enough to hold the roll of the blades.
