About Arctic Snow and Ice Management LLC

Winter here rarely announces itself with drifts; it comes as a glassy skin of freezing rain laid down overnight across Route 58 and the long hills toward Chatham. Arctic Snow and Ice Management LLC watches that forecast the way farmers watch a sky, because in Southside Virginia the difference between thirty-three degrees and thirty-one is the whole day. Plowing, salting and hand-clearing are the work — drives, lots and the walks people take before the sun is up. Danville wakes early, and the trucks aim to be finished by the time it does. Nothing about a cleared lot is showy, but a car that pulls in straight and stops where it should is the point of every cold hour spent on it.
