About Portillo and Son Landscaping and Tree Services

Damascus sits up on the divide, where a ridge decides which way the water runs, and in February it tends to decide in ice. A storm pushes in from the northwest, Cedar Grove and the open fields vanish behind it, and the roads go from black to white in under an hour. Portillo and Son Landscaping and Tree Services works those nights — plow down, driveways opened, walks shoveled to the step, salt worked into the spots that refreeze after midnight. Morning finds the yards white and the pavement clean, which is the entire point of it. Then the next system lines up, and the trucks go out again.
