Late in the day the mountain west of Coeburn leans its shadow over the town while the ridgetops are still bright, and that long blue hour is a fine time to be finishing a lawn. Ds World keeps the mowing, trimming and edging going for houses along the old rail grade and up the hollows where laurel crowds the fence line. Mountain yards rarely sit flat; they roll, they drop, they run right up against rock, and getting an even cut across all of that is the whole pleasure of the job. Spring rain off the Cumberlands pushes growth hard through May and June, and the answer is simply showing up on schedule. What is left behind at dusk is a yard that looks square with its mountain.
