About Green box landscaping

Snow keeps its distance from Deep Creek most winters, and then one January morning the Dismal Swamp Canal lies flat and gray under an inch of it and the whole city starts late. Green box landscaping works those mornings, plowing drives, clearing walks, and putting salt down where the cold has glazed the concrete shut. It begins in the dark — headlights on wet asphalt, the scrape of a blade finding pavement. There is a plain satisfaction in a drive cut clean to its edges, with the gravel left where it belongs. By noon the melt may already be running toward the canal, but the morning still counted: somebody got out on time.
