Metcalf Tree Service

About Metcalf Tree Service

West of town the land tilts up toward the Ragged Mountains and Ivy, and on a clear October day the orchard rows on Carter Mountain are visible from half of Albemarle County. Metcalf Tree Service works the wooded lots out that way, removing dead ash and storm-split hardwoods, trimming limbs back from long gravel drives and roof valleys, and pruning the maples and hickories that came with the property. Wind spills off the ridge in late winter and finds the weak union in a tree every time; when it does, the drive gets opened first and the tops are cleared after. A wooded lot is not a forest and does not want to be, it wants light down to the ground and a few strong trees given room. That is what a good day out here leaves behind.
