Campbell's Curb Appeal

About Campbell's Curb Appeal

June in Broadway starts with fog off Linville Creek and burns clear by eight, and by then the mowers are already running. Campbell's Curb Appeal works the yards between the North Fork and the town's back streets, where the valley floor grows grass fast enough to keep a person honest. The work is mowing, string trimming, edging and blowing the clippings off the walk — plain names for the thing that makes a house look loved from the road. A crisp edge along a sidewalk with Massanutten blue in the distance is a small kind of order, and it holds all week. Come autumn the same yards need the leaves carried off, and the round begins again.
