About Big Stone Gap Rescue Squad

An ambulance bay has one winter requirement: the apron in front of it stays open. The Big Stone Gap Rescue Squad takes on snow removal at the station — plowing the lot and the bay approach, shoveling the walks, treating the pitch where the drive meets the street. Storms come over the ridges above town and hang in the valley for days at a stretch. Every minute saved getting a truck to the road is the reason the shovel comes out before anything else. Open ground in front of those doors is part of the job itself.
