About Smelser's Tree Service LLC

Clarke County keeps its lines in stone: dry-laid limestone walls running the fields, apple rows squared off on the hillsides, hedgerows marking where a farm ended a long time ago. Smelser's Tree Service LLC works inside those lines around Berryville, taking out trees that have overgrown a house or a wall, trimming back from barn eaves and drives, and pruning old fruit and yard trees into a workable frame. A February ice load bends locust and pear out here until something gives, and the days after run on steady saw work and trips to the brush pile. In March the fields green up before the ridge does, and a tree pruned in winter is the first thing to look right. That is the pleasure of it.
