About Melvin Enterprises

Bastian sits in a mountain valley in Bland County, with the long, forested slopes of the Jefferson National Forest rising around it and Interstate 77 slicing through on its way north. Winter means business at this elevation, and a storm that only dusts the lowlands can leave real depth on the driveways here. Melvin Enterprises goes out in the dark hours after a snowfall, plowing drives and breaking through the wall of snow the road plows leave at the end of each one. Steps and walkways are shoveled, and icy grades are treated so a truck can climb without spinning. When the ridge tops finally catch the pink of sunrise, the valley floor is open for the day.
