Willard sits squeezed onto a narrow bench of ground between Willard Peak rising steep at its back and Willard Bay spreading out flat and gray in front, barely room for Highway 89 and a run of orchard rows in between, and AAA Excavation Inc works that whole tight strip once the fruit stands close up for the season and winter takes over. The peak holds its snow long after the valley floor below has gone bare, feeding meltwater down through the same orchard rows that grow peaches every summer, so a driveway cut into that slope drains differently than one out on flat ground and needs clearing with that in mind. Snow off the bay can sweep in low and fast along the water before climbing the bench toward the mountain, catching one property first that a neighbor's, a few hundred feet inland, might miss entirely. The equipment built for moving dirt and grading orchard access roads in warmer months turns just as useful against a heavy wet snowfall pressed up against the mountain's edge, real weight instead of finesse. By the time Highway 89 traffic picks up for the morning, the driveways tucked between the orchard rows sit cleared down to the gravel, the peak still white and heavy above them, the bay still flat and pale beyond.
