The valley grid here goes quiet and white fast, snow piling over rooftops and parking strips as though someone unrolled a fresh bolt of sod over everything, and it takes real attention to find the driveway seams underneath. Sidewalks get scraped to the concrete, salt goes down where the morning refreeze likes to catch people off guard, and a lawn crew that spent August chasing thatch spends January chasing black ice instead. There's something almost funny about turf people out here squaring off clean edges in snow instead of grass, but the instinct for a tidy line carries straight through. By midmorning the plowed streets read like fairway stripes cut into white instead of green.
