Washington City winters run mild by Utah standards, red rock and warm-season grass still holding color most years, so when snow does land over the Virgin River bottoms it tends to catch the whole town a little off guard. Allied Landscape clears driveways and walkways on those rare mornings, working fast because the desert sun usually has its own plans for the snow by midday. There's something almost festive about it: red mesas dusted white above the river, kids getting their first snow day in years, and a driveway that still needs to be clear before anyone can back out. The work here isn't about long winters so much as short, sharp ones, storms that arrive fast off the Pine Valley high country and ask to be dealt with before the desert erases them on its own. Getting ahead of a Washington County snow, brief as it is, still means somebody has to be up early enough to do it.
