The Bear River bends past Tremonton on its way toward the lake, and the fields along it still carry the marks of the sugar beet farming that shaped this town long before the newer subdivisions came in. Haltiners clears driveways and walkways on the residential streets closest to the river, where cold air pools low overnight and turns a light snow into a stubborn glaze by morning. The plow runs early, breaking that glaze before it bonds hard to the pavement, and the shovel crew finishes each walkway by hand. Salt gets scattered generously near the older homes along the farm roads leading into town, where ice tends to linger longest in the shade. The river keeps its slow bend past fields gone quiet for winter, well beyond the last driveway cleared for the day.
