Tooele sits at the foot of the Oquirrh Mountains, which rise sharply east of downtown, while Deseret Peak holds snow on its distant slopes across the valley long before any falls at the townsite below, and the wind funneling down between the two ranges can drift a driveway shut overnight. Croft Landscape & Design clears residential driveways and walkways across town, working early so the drifts don't have all morning to harden into something the shovel can't move. Ice gets salted at the front steps and along the sidewalks that catch the coldest shade, the ones that stay slick long after the rest of the block has dried. The plow runs a steady loop through the older neighborhoods near downtown, where the streets are narrower and the piles have to go somewhere considerate. The wind usually eases by afternoon, and the peak still holds its white line above a town already back to business.
