Cold mornings behave differently in St. George than almost anywhere else in the state — a low mist rises off the Virgin River while the red bluffs above stay dry, and frost gathers in the river bottoms long after it's burned off the higher ground. Desert Mist works those low-lying neighborhoods first, clearing driveways and walkways where the cold pools deepest before the morning sun reaches them. Ice melt goes on steps and front walks in the shaded spots that hold their chill longest. Their routes trace the river's low ground outward toward the drier streets on higher benches. It's a town where winter arrives in patches, and this is work built around finding them.
