Mount Ogden rises directly above South Ogden, close enough that its shadow reaches the bench well before sunset most winter afternoons. Wasatch Valley Lawns works underneath that shadow line, and once the mountain's shade falls across a block, whatever's been cleared that morning can refreeze fast if it wasn't cleared all the way through. This is a lawn care company, and its winter work is driveways and walkways, timed carefully against a mountain that decides, more than the calendar does, when a street goes back into deep cold. On the clearest evenings, the valley opens up to the west all the way to the Great Salt Lake, a wide gray line past the rooftops. The job doesn't change with the view — clear ground, held clear, for as long as the weather allows it.
