About Always Greener

Look west from Smithfield on a July afternoon and the valley floor is a checkerboard of alfalfa, cut and windrowed and cut again before the Wellsvilles go blue at dusk. Always Greener works the smaller squares — the front lawns and back yards of town — with mowing, edging, string trimming, fertilizing and weed control through the long dry middle of the season. Late summer is when a lawn out here tells the truth, and aeration and overseeding in the cooling weeks are how it gets answered. The payoff is simple enough to keep showing up for: a yard still holding its color in October while the fields around it have gone to stubble. Most of this work is measured in evenings, when the heat lets go and the smell of cut grass carries down the block.
