By mid-October the scrub oak along the Dimple Dell ravine has gone rust and copper, and Sandy afternoons arrive with a cool edge coming off the mountains. That is the second window for aeration, and Aerate Utah spends it walking machines back and forth across yards that spent the whole summer baking. Cores come up, seed drops into the open holes, and fertilization gives the roots something to hold onto through the cold months. Mowers drop a notch lower as the season closes, and leaves and clippings get pulled off so nothing mats down beneath the first storm. Come the thaw, the work shows itself in a lawn that greens from the roots outward.
