The east bench of the valley rises in a series of flat terraces, old shorelines left behind by a lake that once covered the whole basin, and the streets built along those terraces catch snow differently depending on which old bench they sit on. TerraWorks reads that ground like a map, working the upper terraces first where drifts tend to gather deepest before dropping down to the lower streets nearer the valley floor. It's landscaping know-how put to different use in winter — understanding a slope, a drainage line, the way water and snow both find the same low points. A driveway cleared on one of those old terraces stays clear longer once they've accounted for where the melt will run. By the end of a route, the whole bench, terrace by terrace, is passable again.
